113 HOUSING UNITS & SHOP, RENNES

The demolition and reconstruction project carried out in the Saint-Cyr district was a one-off urban revitalisation commission. As such, the design was developed to look coherent with the surrounding buildings. Our proposal was intended to breathe new life into the district by introducing an audacious architectural design, while at the same time conserving the urban logic of a dual corner alignment. The two large buildings are designed as a complex of “stacked” blocks. A pared-down three-tier base, aligned with the adjacent volumes, supports an upper block carved out in places to make various types of exteriors. The heart of the plot has a simpler profile, with five individual houses and a small six-storey apartment building arranged around a community vegetable garden.
