The two work packages for this development amount to nearly 3 million square metres, encompassing about 60,000 flats and their associated public realm. The project spans two peripheral districts of Moscow requiring an extensive intervention to deliver upgraded housing. With an area approaching that of a medium-sized French city, the scale of the project called for structured, generous, and open architecture. To provide a mix of architectural and urban forms suited to the context, a system of ten typologies was devised. Each is defined by the articulation of three intrinsic characteristics: pattern, materiality, and colour scheme. Finally, the surrounding pavements, concourses, landscaped gardens, and ground floors have been designed to form a common base, fostering a sense of ownership among future residents.
