494 HOUSING UNITS, ART CENTER AND SHOPS, NICE

The block contributes to the metamorphosis of « the abattoirs district », turning it into a setting where emphasis is placed on the development of an attractive urban inter-generational community type of living environment.

To soften the impact of overall density, we propose a project based on three architectural entities laid out over staged heights. The resulting visual and planted penetrations question the relationship to the site and the banks of the Paillon river. They create urban and landscaped porosities favourable to the integration of a pedestrian scale.

The housing offer made here provides the promise of a multi-form type of housing able to meet changing societal needs. A large nave running alongside an interior street in the heart of the block organises the district around a programme of cultural, artistic and innovative craft activities.
